Buenos Aires has four well-defined seasons. Summer months (December to March) are hot and rainy, and temperature ranges from 72°F to 92°F, exceeding sometimes 100°F. Winter (June to September) is not too cold, with an average temperature of 37°F to 57°F, though wind streams from South Pole may decrease temperature levels a couple of degrees.

During spring and fall the climate is warm and the temperature usually ranges from 55°F to 72°F.

Daylight Saving Time is not applicable in the country, although some provinces have made attempts to implement this system in their territory.

. Banks and Exchange Offices: Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 3 pm.

. Shops: Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 8 pm. In some neighborhoods the tradition of closing at noon and reopening a couple of hours later is still preserved. On Saturdays, opening hours are from 9 am to 1 pm.

. Shopping Malls: Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm, and Sunday from noon to 10 pm. During the weekends, the food courts stay open until 1 am and there are movie showtimes at this hour.

. Supermarkets: from 9 am to 10 pm. Most chains also open on Sundays, generally starting at noon.

. Restaurants: Lunch is served from 1 pm and dinner from 9 pm. Many houses offer fast dishes at any time.

The national currency is the peso ($), split into 100 cents. There are circulating bills of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pesos and coins of 1 peso, 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents.

Even though dollar bills are welcome in most shops, the exchange rate varies and is not always convenient. Therefore, it is preferable to exchange money in banks and authorized agencies. When it comes to credit cards, American Express, VISA and Mastercard are widely accepted.

Ezeiza International Airport is situated 35 km (22 miles) from Buenos Aires city center. The average itinerary lasts 40 minutes by a highway. Flights within Argentina depart from Aeroparque Jorge Newberry, which is situated just 4 km (2.5 miles) from the city center.

: Subway There are 5 subway lines in Buenos Aires. It is called subte and the general fare is a card costing U$S 25 cents. They can be purchased at every station, where you can also find maps showing the various itineraries and destinations. Presently, the subway system is being expanded into different directions.


: Buses There are 145 bus lines operating across the city. They are called colectivos and the fare costs approx. U$S 25 cents. Each bus is equipped with an electronic ticket vending machine which only takes coins. Buses operate 24 hours a day. Being an Argentine invention, this means of transportation is widely used by city workers. : Taxi Cabs The thousands of taxis that cross the streets of Buenos Aires can be easily identified by their color (black with yellow roofs). They are cash only and considerably inexpensive. : Remises Chauffeur-driven cars, or remises, are the best alternative for medium and long distances. The advantage is that you are told the final rate at the moment you inform the destination, avoiding price increases caused by traffic jams. They are also safer than regular street taxis and virtually cost the same. There are several agencies at the Ezeiza Airport and all across the city. : Car Rent In order to drive in Buenos Aires you must be 21 or older and hold a credit card and a personal document. Foreigners will also be asked to show their passport and driving license (international or not). Prices range from U$S 40 (smaller vehicles) to U$S 70 a day. These fares include the first 150 kilometers.

		: Ferries Ferry boats are commonly used for crossing the Río de la Plata. There are multiple daily services that will quickly take you to different cities in Uruguay, such as Colonia, Montevideo and Punta del Este.

No visa is required for foreign visitors, but the legal presence in the country is limited to 90 days.

Businessmen should request a specific visa in the Argentine consulates in order to be granted legal permanece for 90 days or less, with the possibility to extend this period once.

To stay in the country for longer periods or for other reasons, such as residence, education or research, you should previously request the corresponding visa in the Argentine consulates.
