. Buenos Aires was founded twice and its first name was Ciudad de la Santísima Trinidad y Puerto de Nuestra Señora de los Buenos Aires.

. During the first years as a colony, Buenos Aires was a poor and unimportant village that lacked precious metals and had a scarce production capacity. The only reason for thriving as a city was the smuggling of goods through the port.

. The obelisk was built in 1936 in celebration of the city's 400th foundation anniversary. Furthermore, this exact site is thought to be the place where the Argentina's flag was first hoisted.

. Buenos Aires' subway was the first to be opened in South America, inaugurated in 1913. Without any doubts, one of the best symbols of the Buenos Aires belle époque.

. Cristina Kirchner is not Argentina's first female president. After general Peron died in 1974, his third wife and then vice president Isabel Martinez de Peron (or simply Isabelita) succeeded him in office. Poorly prepared, she could not restrain the terrorist attacks and in 1976 ended up abandoning the country due to a military coup.

. The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo march every Thursday in front of the Government House, in a ritual that has lasted for over 30 years.  It began as a desperate way to know the whereabouts of their missing sons and daughters during the "dirty war" and endures until today as a cry for justice and memory.
